The Bret & Frisk and Friends — A Concert for the Kids benefit for Feed Our Rural Kids (FORK) Inc. this Saturday, May 23, will be broadcast on WRJO Radio, 94.5 FM.

“The concert is a fundraising event to help fund nutritional support programs run by Feed Our Rural Kids,” said FORK President Perry Pokrandt. “It is exciting to know that we are going to potentially reach so many more people.”

The musical event will feature the popular local musical duo Bret and Frisk. They, along with some of their musical friends, will be part of this party to raise money to aid FORK.

The other musicians scheduled to participate are Michael Saint, Scott Kirby, Taylor Rae Bolte, Pete Stoltman, Chris McFarland, Mark and Michelle Zanoni, and Mark Wayne.

The highlight of the fundraising event is the fact that between now and Memorial Day, for every dollar donated to FORK, Margaret Baack and Mike McAdams of Land O’ Lakes will match FORK’s collected donations up to $20,000.

“The radio station felt like it was such a natural fit to try to help so many of the children in our listening area,” commented WRJO Program Director Mike Wolf. “It’s very exciting to be part of this unique effort.”

The radio broadcast of Bret & Frisk and Friends will be aired from 6 to 8 p.m this Saturday.

“Mike’s generosity and creativity with this program will be heard as he interviews FORK board members, helping them to tell the story around food insecurity in our area and talk about how FORK is pushing back against that challenge for our area kids,” said Pokrandt.

Individuals now have three ways to be a part of the benefit without actually being there due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Pokrandt.

“People can find the YouTube concert link to watch or listen to the concert wherever they are at FORK’s Facebook page, Feed Our Rural Kids. Or they can find that You Tube link on FORK’s website at feedourruralkids.org. Plus, now they can even tune into WRJO at 94.5 FM,” said Pokrandt

Bret Miller said he and his wife, Frisk, both of Land O’ Lakes, are excited to be part of the fundraiser. They have been entertaining in the North Woods for the past 27 years.

“It will be a great time,” said Bret Miller. “This is a chance to kick back and just watch or listen from the comfort of your own home, out on your deck, sitting by the campfire or driving in your car. You and your family will find it fun while enjoying this new kind of Memorial Day weekend.”

FORK was created to provide nutritional support to school-age children from food-insecure homes within the Northland Pines School District. Currently, FORK is providing children just over 1,000 meals a week through their Meals Now program. This fundraiser is to help FORK provide additional pandemic support.

FORK is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and donations are tax deductible under the new relaxed guidelines of the Cares Act. Every dollar people donate to FORK between now and Memorial Day will be matched by the Baack-McAdams gift.

Individuals wanting to contribute financially can go to feedourruralkids.org to contribute by credit or debit card, or mail a check to FORK, 4887 Echo Ridge Dr., Eagle River, WI 54521.
