Digital marketing project at Nicolet aims to help FORK

Digital marketing students at Nicolet College have been helping local businesses and nonprofit organizations to become more visible on the internet for several years, to great success.

“We selected Feed Our Rural Kids (FORK) for one of our current projects to help them in their mission of feeding children here in the North Woods,” explained Digital Marketing Instructor Donald Schindhelm. “In today’s digital world it is not enough to just have a website or Facebook page, an organization’s online information has to be easy to find.”

The Nicolet project with FORK will focus on search engine optimization (SEO) for their website, feedourruralkids.org. When complete, the project will show them all that needs to be done to enhance FORK’s online visibility.

“To make FORK easier to find, our students use tools and techniques they’ve learned in their Digital Marketing – Fundamentals course at Nicolet,” continued Schindhelm. “To achieve high levels of visibility for an organization like FORK the student will work on projects such as an online analysis, keyword research, market messaging, as well as registering the organization in online search directories like Google, Yelp, and Yellow pages.”

FORK President Perry Pokrandt is grateful for area assistance like what Nicolet is providing.

“Having partners like Nicolet College will help us to better reach area families in need of food support,” Pokrandt said. “Additionally, increased online visibility will help FORK’s message to reach potential benefactors who also want to support the success of local children from food-insecure homes.”

Feed Our Rural Kids is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide nutritional support to children from food-insecure homes within the Northland Pines, Three Lakes, and Phelps school districts.

FORK also supports the Family Food Helpline at 888-479-FORK (3675), in partnership with the human services departments of both Vilas and Oneida counties.
