Nic Weight takes over ‘Tomorrow’s Kids’ fund

One year ago, Feed Our Rural Kids (FORK) announced the kick-off of the Tomorrow’s Kids Endowment Fund’s $1 million capital campaign.

Its purpose was to ensure the economic sustainability of the nutritional support programs created by FORK in order to provide nutritional support to children from food insecure homes from across central and eastern Vilas County.

“Today we announce that the Tomorrow’s Kids Endowment Fund Committee Chairperson Keith Kentala is stepping down, and that Nic Weight will shepherd the program’s fundraising efforts into the future,” said FORK President Perry Pokrandt. “Kentala will continue to provide counsel to the FORK board of directors, and we will definitely miss his daily hands-on support. While at the same time, we are excited that Nic has offered to step up in support of FORK programming into the future.”

“Being from this area, I know that it is a blessing to grow up here,” said Weight. “But I also have seen that for kids from food insecure homes, the challenge to succeed is greater because having enough food every day is not a given.”

Weight is married and a father of two. Representing Meyer’s Insurance in Eagle River as an agent, he is also member of the Eagle River Lions Club and is an assistant coach for Northland Pines boys hockey.

Most recently he served three years on the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, serving as president in 2021.

The Tomorrow’s Kids Endowment Fund was created to meet the chronic, long-term challenges faced by food insecure children, both today and for generations to come.

“We have a great group of people working on the endowment’s fundraising efforts — Nancy Schuler, Brian Fitz and Jed Lechleitner,” said Weight. “Our first efforts will be to review the road we’ve traveled so far to see where the next move will take us.”

“Donors to the endowment have been enthusiastic about this effort, and for that we are grateful,” added Pokrandt.

FORK’s goal for the endowment is a $1 million balance by the end of 2024. Individuals, organizations or businesses wishing to contribute to this challenge to help children can make their legacy gifts online at feedourruralkids.org/get-involved/tomorrows-kids/.
