FORK to Receive United Way Funding

The Northwoods United Way announced it has approved Feed Our Rural Kids Inc. (FORK) as one of the organizations that will receive funding in 2021, according to Nancy Sattler, executive director of the Northwoods United Way.

“With the challenge around the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited about the efforts FORK is making to support children from the growing number of food-insecure homes,” said Sattler. “FORK was selected as a 2021 recipient because of its impressive ability to quickly mobilize and serve the needs of children during this pandemic.”

The Northwoods United Way has twice supported FORK in the last year with funding for emergency food-related COVID-19 support.

“We are grateful for the past help of the Northwoods United Way team and look forward to being able to fund future programs to support our local kids,” said Keith Kentala, FORK board advisor and grant writer for FORK. “The process that the Northwoods United Way uses to vet organizations prior to their decision to provide support was impressive and thorough. That FORK has been selected for that support is humbling, to say the least.”

The monies allocated by the Northwoods United Way for 2021 will be raised at the end of the 2020 calendar year, according to Sattler.

“Once the fundraising ends, we will then determine the specific dollar amounts of each grant,” explained Sattler. “These allocations from our fundraising will be disbursed in equal quarterly installments at the end of March, June, September and December of next year.”

FORK President Perry Pokrandt said his group appreciates the donation.

“FORK would like to say thank you for the support of the Northwoods United Way organization. That is meant to include the administrative staff, volunteers, and especially those companies and individuals who financially support this priceless organization,” said Pokrandt.

FORK is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on providing nutritional support to children from food-insecure homes within the Northland Pines School District.
