Feed Our Rural Kids (FORK) Inc., announced Monday that over the upcoming year, the organization will extend its nutritional support programming into the Phelps School District.

“Running a nonprofit that focuses on feeding children is all about the programs you are able to provide with the promise of sustainability into the future,” said FORK President Perry Pokrandt.

With that basic challenge in mind, Pokrandt said FORK is ready to extend its programming for Phelps School children.

“Our entire educational team is excited for the opportunity to work with FORK in order to provide added nutritional support to our students from food insecure homes,” said Delnice Hill, district administrator of the Phelps School District. “This partnership will make a difference in helping our children challenged by food insecurity to be as successful as possible.”

FORK was established in May 2019 for the purpose of providing nutritional support to school-aged youths from food insecure homes within the Northland Pines School District. In August 2020, FORK expanded its mission to include children of all ages. FORK currently supports  children through four local nutrition programs: FORK Cares, Meals Now, Jump Start and the Formula Support Program.

“This expansion of FORK programming into the Phelps School District is another step forward as outlined within the long-range plan for this organization,” said FORK Vice President and Northland Pines District Administrator Scott Foster. “I’m grateful for this opportunity to work more closely with my colleague Delnice Hill. Together, we can ensure a higher level of success for the food insecure children who live in all of eastern and central Vilas County.”

Pokrandt said FORK has  pieces in place to provide children in Phelps the same support provided to youths from Land O Lakes, Conover, St Germain, Sayner, Star Lake and Eagle River, all within the Northland Pines School District.

“It is our hope, that by June of 2021, all programs will be 100% available to children in both school districts,” said Pokrandt. “We could not take such a big step forward without the support of the Phelps educational community. We are confident that with the continued support of individuals, organizations and companies, hunger will never stand in the way of success for any child.”

FORK is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. People can learn more by going to FeedOurRuralKids.org, where they can stay up to date by registering for FORK’s semi-annual newsletter.
