Endowment fund reports new name, expanded mission
“With this new name also comes a new and expanded vision of our mission, and we are excited to share that with our community,” Weight said.
FORK President Perry Pokrandt added that within that new vision, the FORK Endowment will now seek to help feed children from across all of Vilas and Oneida counties.
“In doing so, we will provide a degree of financial stability to other area nonprofit organizations who, like FORK, also strive to feed children,” Pokrandt said.
The endowment fund was originally created in June 2020 to financially support the future of the five FORK-run nutrition programs. However, in April 2022, the FORK Board of Directors voted to use their endowment’s first asset distribution in support of an area-wide fundraising effort. As a result, nearly $20,000 was donated to the local Weekend Backpacks programs within the Northland Pines, Three Lakes, and Phelps school districts.
“It was from the positive community-wide response to our act of collaboration and giving, that the vision for what was possible through this endowment, first began to change shape,” added Pokrandt. “Our new ‘multi-county’ expansion of FORK’s organizational vision has pushed us to also reimagine the potential of the endowment fund.”
Currently the FORK endowment is in the middle of a $1 million Phase One capital campaign. At this time, donations total just over $400,000.
“As a result of current endowment resources, this year we project the endowments annual cash distribution to be nearly $17,000,” said Weight. “Our new commitment is to use all of those funds in support of hungry children across the two-county region.”
Pokrandt said FORK still has a long way to go to reach its Phase One fundraising goals, and individuals who would like to support FORK’s effort to feed children from across Vilas and Oneida county can donate online at feedourrurakkids.org/fork-endowment.
