What is a DAF?

A donor advised fund (DAF) is a type of giving fund administered by a third party that allows you to combine favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to easily support and manage your charitable donations.

An increasingly popular charitable vehicle, DAFs provide a way to simplify your charitable giving. DAFs allow you to give cash, stock and other assets and receive a tax deduction when the contribution is made. Then, you may use the fund to grant specific amounts to FORK or other charitable organizations over time

In order to establish your Donor Advised Fund you start by making an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to an organization that sponsors a DAF program, such as Fidelity Charitable, National Philanthropic Trust, or your local community foundation.

Then you will determine the investment allocation of the donated assets (your investment growth is tax-free)

Finally, you and your family recommend grants to the charitable cause of your choice whenever you wish to make a gift. SIMPLE!

For general questions regarding a donation from your DAF to FORK, please contact FORK President Perry Pokrandt.

Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCD)

Giving from your IRA.

Individuals 701/2 or older can give any amount (up to a maximum of $105,000) per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity such as Feed Our Rural Kids Inc without having to pay income taxes on the money. Gifts of any value of $105,000 or less are eligible for this benefit, and you can feel good knowing that you are making a difference in the lives of children here in the Northwoods. This popular option for giving is commonly called the IRA charitable rollover, but you may also see it referred to as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD for short.

If you are at least 59½ years old, you can take a distribution and then make a gift from your IRA without penalty. If you itemize your deductions, you can take a charitable deduction for the amount of your gift.

No matter your age, you can designate FORK as the beneficiary of all or a percentage of your IRA and it will pass to us tax-free after your lifetime. It’s simple, just requiring that you contact your IRA administrator for a change-of-beneficiary form or download a form from your provider’s website.

For general questions regarding a donation via a QCD to FORK, please contact FORK President Perry Pokrandt.
